Both Ray Coursen & David Grega share a passion for winemaking and for service to our country. Ray is a Vietnam veteran, and David is an Iraq veteran.
In 1987, Ray began Elyse Winery, and in 1997 purchased a small winery and vineyard on Hoffman Lane adjacent to the Mondavi Family’s Yountville Vineyards. As an accomplished winemaker, Vietnam vet and long-time friend of the Mondavi Family, Ray was the perfect person to lead the winemaking efforts for the release of the 2013 Purple Heart wines.
Starting with our 2014 vintage, accomplished winemaker David joined the winemaking team. After serving in the Iraq war, David returned home to Northern California and was introduced to a sommelier who inspired him to pursue the study of wine. Falling in love with winemaking, he never looked back. David eventually launched Carlotta Cellars in 2008, Broken Arrow Wines in 2011 and is the Assistant Winemaker for top Napa Consultant Jeff Ames. Alongside Ames, he has consulted on highly regarded wines for brands like TOR Kenward, Rudius, Boich Family Cellars, Anthem Winery and more.
